Why are Hair Conditioners Bad and Why Use a Clarifying Shampoo?
Why are hair conditioners bad and why use a clarifying shampoo? “Hair conditioners” are made out of alcohol and silicones that dry out and suffocate hair. The alcohol is used to dissolve the silicones. You know, silicone like the waterproofing caulking around your tub or shower. The use of alcohol on your hair will dry it out and make it brittle leading to breakage. If you try to apply the Abyssinian oil on top of a “hair conditioner” it will just sit on your hair instead of being absorbed as silicone is a waterproofing agent. It can take weeks for the silicones to really get out of your hair unless you use a clarifying shampoo. Even then, it may take a few times to really get your hair clean and healthy. Clarifying shampoos also get the synthetic products, environmental oils and dirt from your hair. Only use it once a week as it will clean everything including your natural oils and Abyssinian or Daikon oil out. Neutrogena T-Gel or T-Sal (not affiliated) are recommended for this as they clean your scalp too (see How to Apply Exotic Oils to the Scalp) For other washings during the week you can use a mild shampoo.
